On June 11 Rottingdean Arts welcomed the BAND OF THE SURREY YEOMANRY for the first concert of the summer season. The weather was a little windy but it stayed dry and the players gave a very good show to an enthusiastic crowd.
On June 18 a large audience enjoyed a most entertaining concert of Gilbert and Sullivan favourites performed by Yvonne Patrick, Stephen Brown and Ian Belsey, accompanied by Lesley-Ann Sammons. It was an extremely hot day, so sunscreen and hats came in useful.
SISATA THEATRE GROUP gave a fine performance of Shakespeare’s “Othello” on the Rottingdean Terraces Stage on Sunday, July 16. This was a radical re-imagining of this masterful debate on the condition, telling of jealousy, love and ambition, set against a backdrop of the 1980s, hip hop culture and drawn from the life and work of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. It was adapted and directed by Charmaine Parkin and the four versatile actors were Alessandro Babalola (Othello), Amelia Gardham (Cassio/Minister/Desdemona), Anna Newcombe (Brabantia/Emilia/Montano) and Robert Wallis (Iago/Clown). They were very well received by the large, enthusiastic audience.
